Could I get a copy of the chart please?

I really appreciated the clarity on the differences in knitting terms and yarn weights between the UK and US. It’s so helpful to have everything laid out like this, especially with how confusing it can be when following patterns from different regions. Thanks for the insights!

Hi, you can only do that if you know how many yards/meters are in the balls measured in ounces or vice versa. Most US yarn lists both length and weight so if someone recommends a certain brand of yarn you can figure out how many yards per ounce it is from the label and how many yards the pattern recommends to convert that to ounces. If you don’t have access to the recommended yarn to read the label, you should be able to either google it or find that information on Ravelry. Hope that helps!

I am a beginning knitter and was trying to figure out why my pattern called for “yarn round needle” and yet was preceded and followed by knit stitches, while every video I could find was calling it a yarn over. I even sent a comment to the pattern maker and they described a yarn over but still called it a yrn – I was so confused! Had pretty much decided to proceed as I knew what to do no matter what it was called when I realized it was an English pattern. Your article helped clear up the confusion.
And good to read about the seed vs moss stitch too, as this pattern calls for that later on!

I am just returning to knitting and crochet having just retired and the combination of needle, hooks and yarn sizes seem to be more confusing. Thank you Sharon J

I have found them all. Susan Bates is a 4.0 mm, Boye is 4.25mm, while Loops & ?? (have forgotten this name but sold at Michael’s) is 4.5 mm.

Best be very careful when reading your pattern when the mm is given or you just gamble if pattern just says ‘G hook’.
