In reply to Deb. Yes, me too. And I'm allergic to wool somehow on my finger tips and allergic of the COST. So many places and ways we can find to support each other and enjoy this craft w/o creating divisions. I'm old, but new to knitting. Very helpful site here.

Thanks so much for the great information. I’m not a very experienced knitter and will be knitting for a charity that requires acrylic. Your suggestions are really appreciated and very well-written. This should be fun and another learning opportunity.

Morning Cassie, i NEVER USE ACRYLIC,it melts onto whoever is wearing it, it does not breathe at all, usually babies are warmer anyway, yes it is cheap, that can be a factor..for baby items, Cotton or bamboo, even washable wool works great..charity knitting is a definite cotton yarn, it washes well every time. Thanks for the petal hat, will go in the stack for healthy hearts baby hat for next February (heart month). Cheers, Bobbe
