Hi!
The largest size does fit some 6 year olds depending on the child. You can also add 8 more stitches to the largest cast on and another half inch in height before the decrease to go up one more size. Hope that helps!

Hi Cassie. Just wanted to let you know I followed your suggestion to add those stitches and the hats turned out perfect. I should have taken a picture. One snowman had a pink scarf and one a purple since that was the little girls favorite colours. Hope they like them as much as their Grandma did! Thanks for the help! Judy

Hi Sheri,
The gauge is 20 stitches = 4 inches so the sizes are:
0-3 months: 11.2 inches circumference
6 months: 12.8 inches
12 months: 14.4 inches
2T+ : 16 inches

HOWEVER! these are the sizes of the finished hats UNSTRETCHED. They are quite stretchy which is why I size them by age instead of by inches. They stretch (like all knitting) quite a bit. It sounds like you might need the 2T+ size which fits most kids at least through age 4.
